The United Nations General Assembly proclaimed February 20 as the World Day of Social Justice in 2007. This decision was influenced by the International Labour Organization's Declaration on Social Justice for a Fair Globalization in 2008. The UN emphasizes that social development and social justice are indispensable for the achievement and maintenance of peace and security. It promotes a global framework for development based on fairness.
