13 March - Good Samaritan Day at Sambara Celebrations

March 13 – Good Samaritan Day

Why This Day Is Special?

Observed on March 13 Good Samaritan Day celebrates the spirit of  kindness, compassion, and helping others without expecting anything in return. Inspired by the biblical story of the Good Samaritan, this day reminds us that even the smallest act of care can make a big difference in someone’s life. It encourages people to extend a hand of friendship and humanity to those in need.

History Behind the Day

Good Samaritan Day was created to honor the memory of  Catherine “Kitty” Genovese, whose tragic death in 1964 inspired reflection on the importance of helping others in times of need. The day calls for everyone to be a Good Samaritan — someone who steps forward to offer kindness, assistance, and empathy, no matter who the person is.

  Did You Know? ❓

• The term Good Samaritan  comes from a story in the  Bible (Luke 10:25–37).
• Many countries have “Good Samaritan laws” to protect people who help others in emergencies.
• Small acts of kindness — like helping a stranger, donating, or volunteering — embody the true spirit of this day.

  How Can We Celebrate?

• Perform a random act of kindness — help someone in need or share a smile.
• Volunteer your time for a community or social cause.
• Appreciate and thank people who have shown kindness in your life.
• Encourage students or friends to start a “Be Kind” campaig  at school or in the neighborhood.

Spreading compassion, one act at a time — Good Samaritan Day reminds us that humanity shines brightest when we care for one another.
