History Behind the Day

Asteroid Day is held every year on June 30 to mark the anniversary of the Tunguska event in 1908, when a huge explosion from an asteroid impact flattened thousands of trees in Siberia. The day was co-founded in 2015 by scientists and astronauts and is recognized by the United Nations.
